Prosthetics
Everyone dreams of a beautiful, white and healthy smile. Developments in prosthetics provide for the restoration of dentition, irrespective of the reasons for tooth loss. Various kinds of prosthetic restorations are applicable, according to the condition of the patient’s mouth: There are two groups of restoration: - permanent dentures, including crowns, bridges and root-form implants. This restoration is fixed to the patient’s own teeth permanently, using a specially-designed adhesive cement.
Stages in the preparation of a porcelain bridge:
Initial status | | | Polished teeth
| | | Supported bridge with missing teeth suspended(pontic teeth) | |
- removable dentures that are placed and removed from the mouth by the patient. These may be skeletal, partial and complete, tissue-supported dentures, made of acrylic. | | | | | | | | | - a skeletal denture consists of the body (framework) made of a special metal alloy, acrylic teeth, and numerous small parts, such as clasps, pins, a palatal bar or a sublingual bar.
Skeletal denture
| | Tooth loss | |
| | Prosthetic restoration with skeletal denture
- a complete tissue-supported denture made of coloured gum-imitation plastic and acrylic teeth, available in various colours, shape and size, to meet all the expectations of the patient.
However, a plate tissue-supported denture should be used, if possible, as a temporary denture, as long-term use of a tissue-supported denture may lead to periodontal complications and the development of dental caries in the places of contact with the denture.
